Bears re-sign Lynch to 53-man roster, start filling out practice squad

The Bears have re-signed defensive lineman James Lynch to the active roster, sources told the Tribune, and the team has filled 12 of its 16 spots on the practice squad.

Lynch was released Sunday before the deadline to set the initial 53-man roster, which included safety Coby Bryant and undrafted rookie tight end Hayden Large, both of whom are expected to be placed on injured reserve.

Eleven players who spent training camp with the Bears and were waived or released at the deadline were re-signed to the practice squad, according to Monday’s official NFL transactions report. The Bears also are signing offensive tackle Christian Jones, a fifth-round draft pick by the Arizona Cardinals in 2024, to their practice squad.

The Bears are expected to announce more transactions Tuesday.

The 11 practice squad signees who spent camp with the Bears include wide receivers Scotty Miller, Kaden Davis and JP Richardson, running back Salvon Ahmed and defensive end Marcus Davenport.

Also re-signing were tight end Stephen Carlson, offensive linemen Caden Barnett and Kyle Hergel, linebacker Wayne Matthews III, cornerback Deantre Price and safety Marlen Sewell.

The Bears didn’t make any waiver claims Monday. The New Orleans Saints claimed undrafted rookie offensive tackle Mason Murphy, whom the Bears waived Sunday.

ESPN reported that the Philadelphia Eagles plan to sign former Bears offensive tackle Kiran Amegadjie to their practice squad. The 2024 third-round pick from Hinsdale was waived Sunday after appearing in six games with one start over two injury-plagued seasons in Chicago.
