Hoffman Estates man dies after being pulled from Lake Michigan

Cook County authorities have identified a 22-year-old Hoffman Estates man as the person who died Wednesday after being pulled from Lake Michigan on Chicago’s North Side.

Tirith J. Patel was pronounced dead at 10:34 a.m. Wednesday in the 300 block of West Belmont Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The medical examiner performed an autopsy Thursday, but the cause of Patel’s death remains undetermined, the office reported.

Patel was pulled from the water near Belmont Harbor at about 10:20 a.m., ABC 7 reported. It was unclear how he got in the water.

Chicago police are investigating.
