Aurora Fire Museum to host Community Hero Day Oct. 3

On Saturday, Oct. 3, the Aurora Regional Fire Museum is hosting its annual Community Hero Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the museum grounds, 53 N. Broadway, Aurora.

This event continues to be a success due to overwhelming support from museum partners and the residents of Aurora and surrounding communities. Families will have an opportunity to once again participate in the Touch-A-Truck event with vehicles spanning from police and fire to community services.

This event allows residents to get up close and personal with vehicles that serve the community on a daily basis. Additionally, the event will feature safety education from numerous safety providers in the community.

For the finale, there will be a live burn demonstration in partnership with the Northern Illinois Fire Sprinkler Advisory Board and the Aurora Fire Department, showcasing how quickly fires can spread as well as the importance of fire sprinklers in saving lives and property.

Other event highlights include: free fire truck rides, free hands-only CPR classes, family-friendly DJ, car extrication and fire demonstrations, and tours of Aurora’s Central Fire Station.
