Buffalo Grove police win traffic safety award

The Buffalo Grove Police Department earned a first-place finish in the Municipal 51-65 Officer category for the 2025-2026 Illinois Traffic Safety Challenge.

The challenge, hosted by the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, is a friendly competition among agencies throughout the state. It rewards departments for innovation, community education and effectiveness in reducing serious crashes.

Departments are evaluated in four primary areas: occupant protection and seat belt use; speed awareness and enforcement; impaired driving prevention; and distracted driving awareness.

The award was given earlier this month during the Midwest Security and Police Conference, and was accepted by officer Ross Valstyn on behalf of the Buffalo Grove Police Department.

“As with all things policing, this is truly a team effort,” Chief Brian Budds said in an announcement of the award. “I’m proud of our team’s recognition for keeping our streets safe.”
