Itasca police officer used ‘technology systems’ inappropriately, officials say
An Itasca police officer used department “technology systems” for an unauthorized purpose, actions now under review by DuPage County prosecutors, the village announced Wednesday.
The announcement, posted on the village’s website, does not specify what systems were used inappropriately or how they were used.
According to the statement, the officer initially was put on administrative leave amid an internal investigation and now no longer works for Itasca. The matter is now in the hands of the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office, officials said.
The statement indicates the officer’s actions were discovered during an internal audit, but does not state when the matter came to light or if the officer quit or was fired.
“The Village of Itasca remains committed to transparency and accountability for its residents,” the statement reads. “While we believe this was an isolated incident, as part of that commitment, the Village is engaging an independent third party to conduct a comprehensive review of the Police Department’s related policies and procedures.”
Police referred questions Thursday to a spokesperson for the village. That person could not be reached for comment. A message also was left with the village administrator.
ABC 7 News reported the statement may be related to the television station’s request for documents regarding misuse of Flock automatic license plate reader cameras.
According to the village’s website, the village obtained 17 Flock cameras in 2023. It renewed the contract earlier this year, but declined to add more cameras.
