Authorities: Man brought 330 pounds of cocaine to Kane County

A Texas man is accused of transporting 330 pounds of cocaine into Kane County in the sleeper compartment of a semitrailer truck, authorities said Wednesday.

The Kane County Sheriff’s Office announced it had arrested Yonas Ketema on July 27 on charges of controlled substance trafficking and unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, both felonies.

Sheriff’s police said the arrest occurred while deputies were conducting a special traffic enforcement on I-88 near Route 31 in the Aurora area.

Ketema, 46, of Houston, was stopped while driving a 2011 Freightliner truck with Texas license plates, officials said.

A Kane County judge ordered that Ketema be detained while awaiting trial. His next court date is Sept. 9.

Homeland Security Investigations Chicago Financial Crimes Task Force was notified of the arrest and is assisting in the ongoing investigation, according to the sheriff’s office.
