Man accused of using AI to create child sexual abuse materials
A Kane County man is facing accusations that he used artificial intelligence to produce child sexual abuse materials, including altering images of real children, authorities said.
Jeremy Batterman, 52, of the 3N800 block of Baert Lane near Campton Hills, is charged with 20 counts of producing child sex abuse materials, 20 counts of possession of such materials, and four counts of obscene depiction of a purported child, according to a news release from the Kane County state’s attorney’s office.
He appeared at a detention hearing Friday, where a judge ordered he be kept in the Kane County jail pretrial.
The charges allege that between Nov. 13, 2025, and May 17, 2026, Batterman used AI to produce sexually explicit images and videos of children under the age of 18 and under the age of 13. In addition to altering images of real children, the charges accuse him of creating entirely AI-generated materials.
The Kane County Child Exploitation Unit investigated the case with the aid of the St. Charles Police Department, after receiving a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Batterman’s next court date is Thursday, Aug. 20.
