Man accused of stalking Batavia resident he saw on social media

Batavia police have arrested a man accused of spying on someone he noticed on social media.

Police were called at 2:39 a.m. Thursday to a home in the 1400 block of Clybourne Street. The caller, an adult woman, said she saw a flashlight and a shadow outside her window, according to a news release.

Officers saw someone running through the backyard.

Police searched the area and found a man in the 0-99 block of Saratoga Drive, dressed in all-black clothing, with vegetation debris on his clothing and shoes.

Authorities said the man was 27-year-old Tavian Douglas-Rogan of Yorkville.

According to the release, he told police he had seen the victim on social media, researched them and found their address.

Police say he had burglary tools he had bought just hours before the incident.

Douglas-Rogan is charged with attempted residential burglary, stalking, and possession of burglary tools, all felonies.

He is on the Illinois Sex Offender Registry. The registry does not specify what crime he was convicted of because it was a case from another state. It says he was 24 at the time and the victim was 20.

The sex offender registry says he lives in the 3100 block of Grande Trail.
