Achieve your dreams one step at a time
“For a dream comes with much business…”
— Ecclesiastes 5:3 (AMP)
The summer is almost gone, and we see the year flying by. But there is still time to do something on our to-do list that we are dreaming of doing. Even a small one.
What might we put on our list to achieve or accomplish? It can be simple things. Our big dream comes true with the completing of the simplest of tasks, one by one. Our dream to have our house orderly can start one room at a time. Our dream to take a vacation may be limited by our time or budget. But we can start by going to the zoo, visiting a park or a local event for a change of pace, rather than planning a big trip.
We might have a dream for getting more balance in our lives, instead of all work and no play. We can start by looking at the things we enjoy, such as a hobby or a leisure activity, like walking, biking, reading our favorite books or piecing together a puzzle.
Sometimes we know what we want, but other priorities and unexpected situations get in our way. Instead of giving up, we just have to stick with it. If the inventor of the light bulb gave up, we’d still be in the dark. We often don’t realize he made hundreds of attempts before succeeding.
Looking at going back to school or gaining some new perspectives and wisdom might seem like a lofty goal. But we can start to achieve this by reading one article or column on a topic that can broaden our perspective. We can read a few self-improvement books that can expand our horizons. If reading is not our thing, we can watch educational television or internet videos.
Sometimes, our dreams involve other people. Making an effort to amend a disagreement or gap in a relationship with family and friends by giving a phone call or sending a note can be a positive step to make that dream come true.
Making sure we include a step to improve our spiritual life is important too. We can start by asking God to guide our efforts.
Whatever our dreams are, no matter how small they may seem, making it our business to achieve them helps us live a healthy, happy and productive life.
