A list of Trump’s “accomplishments”
Daily Herald reader Steven Cohen recently complained that there was no newspaper coverage of President Trump's accomplishments. I would like to offer a list of results for which Trump is directly responsible. More than 1.8 million people are dead due to Trump's bungling of COVID during his first term, elimination of US-AID funds, the war in Iran, military adventures in Venezuela, detentions in ICE facilities, and the execution of 2 US citizens by Trump's ICE agents.
The national debt is currently at its highest level in history — $39.8 trillion dollars, a sum that the non-partisan Peterson Foundation states is unsustainable and puts the entire economy in jeopardy.
The 5-month old unprovoked war with Iran has cost $37.5 billion dollars and depleted US weapons stockpiles. This war has cost the average American household $1,100, while Trump tariffs to date have cost Americans $1,745. Average Americans are paying more for gas and groceries.
In contrast, Trump's personal wealth has increased by an unprecedented billions of dollars. Measles cases in the US are at their highest level, jeopardizing the health of children and our nation's status as a measles-free nation. This is a direct result of Trump's incompetent HHS Secretary, RFK, Jr.
The national security of the U.S. has been put at risk by Trump, as China has moved to fill the vacuum of influence in the world created by Trump's mercurial and adversarial words and actions toward our allies. Indeed, a survey of 36 nations by the Pew Research Center shows that the U.S. is increasingly viewed unfavorably by other nations. The U.S. is no longer seen as a reliable partner, a leader for peace and stability, and a model for democracy.
In addition to these “accomplishments,” Trump holds personal records as the only president to have earned a 34-count felony conviction, status as an adjudicated sex offender, 6 business bankruptcies, and an average of 21 lies told per day. This is but a brief list of the actions that Trump has perpetrated that have endangered and weakened our nation and will continue to harm the US and the world for decades.
That's his legacy.
