Thief spent $98,000 at Home Depot stores using Des Plaines man’s identity, police say
Someone fraudulently purchased $98,000 worth of products at Home Depot stores in three states using a Des Plaines resident’s identity, police said Monday.
The thief had opened a Home Depot credit card account in the residents’ name. The victim discovered the thefts after he received an emailed invoice from Home Depot, police said.
The purchases were made Aug. 7-8 in Florida, New Jersey and Indiana.
Des Plaines police and the credit card company are investigating.
