Man gets 18 years for 2022 shooting outside Lombard mall
A man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for shooting a woman in 2022 in a parking lot at Yorktown Center shopping mall in Lombard.
Ronald Grundy, 26, of Louisville, Kentucky, pleaded guilty Monday to aggravated battery with a firearm. Following his guilty plea, Judge Margaret O’Connell handed down the sentence.
Co-defendant Jakobi Kinsey, 27, of Chicago, is still awaiting trial. He is charged with aggravated battery with a firearm and three counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm.
According to a news release from the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office, the shooting happened around 3 p.m. on Nov. 11, 2022.
Authorities said two men and a woman were at the mall when they were confronted by Grundy, who was wearing a ski mask, and Kinsey.
When the victims left the mall and went to their car, the defendants got in their car and drove toward the victims’ vehicle, according to prosecutors.
Authorities said Grundy leaned out of a window and fired a gun, hitting the woman in the arm.
Grundy will be required to serve 85% of his sentence before being eligible for parole, officials said.
Kinsey’s next court date is Sept. 1.
