Fire destroys garage, damages two homes in Elgin

No one was hurt during an early Monday morning garage fire in Elgin that damaged two nearby homes.

According to a news release from the city, Elgin Fire Department crews responded at about 2:15 a.m. to the 200 block of South Weston Avenue. They found a two-car detached garage on fire with flames extending to two homes and two vehicles parked in the driveway.

All occupants had already evacuated before firefighters arrived.

Crews brought the fire under control in about 15 minutes. The garage was declared a total loss, and both vehicles had fire damage. The two homes had exterior damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and damage is estimated at more than $150,000.
