Man dies from injuries two weeks after e-scooter crash

A 60-year-old Park City man has died from his injuries two weeks after his e-scooter was involved in a crash along northbound Route 41 near the Grand Avenue exit in Gurnee.

About 5:25 p.m. on July 27, Gurnee police and fire personnel responded to a report of a vehicle crash involving a Ford F-450 and an electric scooter.

A preliminary investigation showed that the 60-year-old man, identified as Domingo Ocampo, was riding his e-scooter northbound along the shoulder of Route 41 while the Ford, which was pulling a trailer, was also traveling in the same direction. Two wheels broke loose from the trailer, one of which struck Ocampo, authorities said.

He was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with life-threatening injuries. The Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) was requested to assist in the investigation.

On Saturday, the Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified that Ocampo had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead in the intensive care unit, authorities said.

A preliminary coroner’s investigation shows Ocampo died from complications of blunt force head injuries as a result of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Gurnee Police Department and MCAT.
