Associate superintendent identified as finalist in District 54 superintendent search

Schaumburg Township Elementary District 54 Superintendent Andy DuRoss may know who his successor is before the first day of his 14th and final school year in his current role.

The board of education Thursday night is poised to consider the appointment of Associate Superintendent of Educational Services Jillian Sagan to take over from DuRoss next summer.

Sagan is the finalist of a superintendent search that began when DuRoss announced his impending retirement in January. At the time, he said he wanted to give the board plenty of time for a thorough search and a seamless transition.

Also on Thursday’s agenda is approval of a five-year contract with Sagan with a starting base salary of $280,000. DuRoss will retire next year with a base salary of $322,000.

Sagan earned her bachelor’s degree from Indiana University in 2004, her master’s degree from Concordia University in 2011 and her doctorate of education from National Louis University in 2019.

She began her career in District 54 as a special services teacher at Lincoln Prairie Elementary School from 2005 to 2011.

Her two years as assistant principal of Mead Junior High were followed by three years as principal of the same school. She was then principal of Blackwell Elementary School from 2016 to 2022.

Sagan was assistant principal of professional development from 2022 to 2024, assistant superintendent of educational services from 2024 to 2025, and then associate superintendent of educational services.

The board contracted the consulting services of HYA Corporation of Arlington Heights for its superintendent search back in January.
