New stormwater projects coming to Wheeling
The Wheeling village board Monday approved five new projects for its stormwater master plan.
The work is scheduled to be done between 2028 and 2031 and is expected to cost about $8.5 million.
The original stormwater master plan was approved in 2015. With a price tag of about $9 million, it consisted of eight projects designed to relieve significant, ongoing flooding problems.
During Monday’s village board meeting, Trustee Mary Papantos praised those projects for preventing flooding during last week’s heavy rains.
The future projects will include elevating Wheeling Road over a culvert near Town Street; installing sewer inlets to relieve backyard flooding in the Orchard Lake subdivision; and installing new sewers would be installed near First Street and Deborah Lane.
