Sugar Grove man charged with multiple DUIs after head-on crash that killed three in Kendall County Friday

A 22-year-old Sugar Grove man is facing eight felony DUI charges after a head-on crash Friday in Kendall County that killed three people, including a 4-year-old girl.

Carson M. Rehkopf has been charged by the Kendall County state’s attorney’s office with six counts of aggravated DUI involving death, two counts of aggravated DUI involving great bodily harm and multiple traffic offenses after the crash that took place around 9:15 p.m. July 31.

According to a news release from the Illinois State Police, Rehkopf was driving a pickup truck south on IL-71 south of Millbrook when he entered the northbound lanes to pass multiple vehicles. His truck struck an SUV head-on, causing a four-vehicle crash.

A passenger from the SUV, Amy L. Witter, 38, was pronounced dead at the scene. The three other SUV occupants were taken to hospitals, where two of them, James D. Witter, 61, and a 4-year-old girl, later died.

All the SUV occupants were from Des Moines, Iowa. Rehkopf also was injured in the crash.

Rehkopf remains in custody at the Kendall County Jail pending his first court appearance.
