Search continues for missing person near Oak Spring Road and Des Plaines River Trail

An hourslong water search for a reported missing person near Libertyville concluded about 4 p.m. Friday but a team of dogs continued to search the shoreline as evening neared.

Libertyville Fire Chief Michael Pakosta said the department was contacted about 9 a.m. by the Lake County Forest Preserve District police to assist in a missing person search.

After an initial response by Libertyville, additional specialized resources were requested.

In early afternoon, people were asked to avoid the area around Oak Spring Road and the Des Plaines River and trail as response teams searched.

That portion concluded about 1 p.m. An extensive search of the river from Route 137 to Route 176 yielded nothing and operations transitioned to a side-scan sonar specialized response to search Lake Minear, Pakosta said.

There is a canoe launch just south of Oak Spring Road.

Forest preserve district police and partnering agencies continued to search the shoreline with dogs but no one had been reported found as of about 5 p.m. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
