Aurora man faces reckless homicide charge in I-88 crash that killed 2 people

A man has been charged with reckless homicide in connection with an October 2025 crash on Interstate 88 in North Aurora that left two people dead.

Hector Reyna, 31, of the 900 block of Grove Avenue in Aurora, was indicted in April. He was arrested this week in another unspecified state, according to Kane County court records.

The crash happened around 8:10 p.m. Oct. 25, 2025, in the westbound lanes of I-88 near Mitchell Road in North Aurora. The victims were Diego Nava Torres, 32, and his passenger, Samantha Ortiz, 33.

The indictment alleges that Reyna was driving a Toyota Scion FR-S at least 26 to 34 mph over the speed limit when the crash happened.

Reyna is charged with two counts of reckless homicide. The charges allege that he drove at an excessive speed, didn’t have his headlights on, and tried to pass a vehicle or change lanes improperly.

He is also charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving personal injury or death, obstruction of justice and disorderly conduct, all felonies.

The disorderly conduct charge accuses him of telling police the next day that he was the victim of a crash.

The obstruction charge accuses Reyna of putting his car into a storage unit to prevent police from locating it.

He is also charged with misdemeanors of speeding, driving too fast for conditions and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Reyna is in the Kane County jail. A detention hearing will be held Monday, according to court records.
