Kane County Cougars slip past Chicago Dogs to capture series win

The Kane County Cougars (33-31) captured their third win in four games over the Chicago Dogs (21-43) Thursday night, using a late offensive surge and dominant bullpen performance to earn a 6-2 victory at Northwestern Medicine Field in Geneva.

The Cougars wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. With one out in the first inning, Josh Allen turned on a pitch and launched it over the left-field wall for his fourth home run of the season, giving Kane County an early 1-0 lead.

Reese Sharp kept the Dogs quiet through the opening three innings before Chicago finally broke through in the fourth. After a two-out walk to Jacob Maiben, Tyreque Reed lined a double off the left-field wall to score the tying run and even the game at 1-1.

Kane County answered in the fifth. Armond Upshaw lined a one-out double into the right-center field gap before Matt Bottcher followed with a single. Todd Lott then delivered an RBI single to right, bringing Upshaw home to restore the Cougars' lead at 2-1.
