Funeral arrangements set for former Elgin City Council member Susan Moylan

A funeral will be held Saturday for former Elgin City Council member Susan Moylan, who passed away this week.

According to her obituary from Laird Funeral Home, Moylan died peacefully on Monday, July 27, after a struggle with dementia. She was 84.

Moylan served two terms on the council from 1985 to 1993 and more recently was an elected member of the Gail Borden Library Board.

Her extensive volunteer resume includes work with Rotary, United Way, St. Joseph Hospital Foundation and PADS. She also was an active member of St. Thomas More parish.

Professionally, Moylan worked for Elgin Community College as director of the Business and Industry Training Center for more than 20 years.

Moylan was known as an avid gardener and talented seamstress whose most recent passion was making quilts, which she often gave away as gifts for special occasions or donated for charity events.

She is survived by her four daughters and their spouses, 11 grandchildren and two great-grandsons, in addition to six siblings and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 215 Thomas More Dr., Elgin.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin, and on Saturday at the church beginning at 10 a.m. before the funeral. Burial will be private.
