Community unity: Join National Night Out events in the suburbs

National Night Out is an annual event held on the first Tuesday in August, intended to bring communities together to enhance the public’s relationship with local police and emergency personnel while building neighborhood spirit. This year’s official date is Tuesday, Aug. 4, although some events take place in the surrounding week.

Naperville National Night Out: Community Kick-Off/Movie Night at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3, outside the Fry Family YMCA, 2120 95th St. The city, in partnership with the YMCA, hosts an evening of free entertainment and giveaways, bounce house, games, and food available for purchase before a movie at dusk. In the event of rain, the movie will be shown indoors. Neighborhood events take place Tuesday, Aug. 4, in dozens of neighborhoods in town; times vary. City departments will visit various locations from 5-8 p.m. This year’s donation drive benefits Little Friends. Wauconda National Night Out: 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, on Main Street, between Bangs Street and Route 176, Wauconda. The village of Wauconda Police Department and other community organizations host a family night out featuring emergency and utility vehicles, games, food, raffles, prizes, music and more. Aurora National Night Out: Twenty-four events are planned at various times Tuesday, Aug. 4, across Aurora for National Night Out. South Elgin Back-to-School Night Out: 4-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, at Panton Mill Park, 10 N. Water St., South Elgin. Community event combining National Night Out with annual Back-to-School Bash.
