Dogs edge Cougars in 10 innings

After dropping the series opener to the Kane County Cougars, the Chicago Dogs bounced back with a 7-6 win in 10 innings Tuesday in Geneva.

Early offense and clutch pitching won the game for Chicago. Another great start from Steven Lacey was backed by some big swings from the Dogs offense.

In the top of the second inning, Chicago scored on a fielder’s choice as Zack Stokes scored from third with Ethan Wilder at the plate. Chicago added two in the fourth, including a run on a sacrifice fly from Chance Sisco. Tyreque Reed drove in two in the fifth on a double before scoring himself on a Cooper Weiss RBI single, putting Chicago up 6-4.

In the tenth inning, automatic runner Stokes scored from second on a leadoff single from Reed, who knocked in his third run of the game and gave the Dogs a 7-6 lead.

Lacey pitched six innings while allowing just two earned runs with three strikeouts and one walk. Brendan Roberts retired the side in order in the seventh. Cade Herrmann added a scoreless eighth inning. Austin Eaton gave up the lead in the bottom of the ninth, with two runs coming across before he was relieved by Regi Grace Jr. Grace stranded the tying and go-ahead runs on base in the 10th to earn his third win of the season.
