Arlington Heights rebrands its National Night Out event as ‘Night in the Heights’

The Arlington Heights Police Department’s inaugural “Night in the Heights” — complete with a police dog demonstration, music, games, food and more — is set to debut Wednesday at North School Park.

The free family-friendly event, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., happens nearly a week before most suburbs host National Night Out events of their own.

The nationwide community-building campaign promoting police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie is commonly on the first Tuesday of August. Arlington Heights already held its event on off nights both in 2024 and 2025, and this year, is rebranding the block party with a new title.

But the night out this Wednesday will look similar to what families have experienced in years past.

Organized in conjunction with the Arlington Heights Park District, planned activities include: inflatables, games, giveaways, balloon artists, face painters, a stilt walker, food trucks, vendors, community organizations and the Arlington Heights Memorial Library’s Bookmobile.

Opening ceremonies are scheduled for 6 p.m., followed by the popular police dog demonstration at 6:30 p.m. The Arlington Heights Fire Department’s burn demonstration is at 7:15 p.m. Valius, a suburban cover band, will take the band shell stage at 7 p.m. to perform rock hits and patriotic-inspired songs celebrating America’s 250th anniversary.

“This event is about bringing the community together,” Police Chief Nick Pecora said in an announcement. “Night in the Heights gives residents an opportunity to connect with the officers and community partners who serve Arlington Heights every day, while enjoying a fun summer evening with family and friends.”

Several roads surrounding the park, 307 N. Evergreen Ave., will be closed to traffic. Since nearby street parking will be limited, officials recommend parking in one of the village’s nearby garages.
