1 killed, 2 others hospitalized after pre-dawn crash in Barrington Hills

Police said speed appeared to be a “contributing factor” in an early morning crash that killed a 17-year-old and injured two other people Saturday in Barrington Hills.

Police responded around 2:20 a.m. and found a teenage male had been ejected from a vehicle near Brinker and Hills and Dales roads.

Officers “began lifesaving measures however the victim was pronounced deceased,” authorities said.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified the 17-year-old as Colin M. Newnam of Barrington.

Two other occupants of the vehicle were taken to area hospitals. Additional details are being withheld until family members have been notified, police said.

Preliminary evidence shows a Mercedes SUV was traveling north on Brinker when it left the road, hit several trees and rolled over, officials said.

Barrington Hills police and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team are partnering in the investigation.
