Kane County redoing rabies vaccines due to recall

Kane County is offering to revaccinate animals that received rabies vaccines last year from the county because the manufacturer has recalled the vaccine.

Letters have been sent to owners of several hundred animals who were vaccinated in August, September and October of 2025, Kane County Animal Control administrator Brett Youngsteadt said Wednesday during a county board public health committee meeting.

It applies to animals who received a one-year vaccine.

The manufacturer announced a voluntary recall after testing of vials in April revealed diminished potency, according to Youngsteadt.

The revaccinations are free and being done by appointment, he said.
