Police searching for 2 people in Highland Park shooting

Police continued to search Tuesday for two people suspected of being involved in, or witnessing, a Highland Park shooting that prompted the village to initially issue a shelter-in-place order.

Authorities released photos of a man and a woman who are being sought, and police say they have identified both “persons of interest.”

Highland Park police were called at about 8 p.m. Monday to the 300 block of Walker Avenue for reports of a shooting. Police found an injured person, identified as a 30-year-old man, who was taken to a hospital.

“Preliminary hospital reports indicate that his condition is improving,” a news release issued Tuesday by the city said.

Police said they set up a perimeter around the area and deployed drones and K-9 units to locate the suspects. Authorities also issued a shelter-in-place order for people in the immediate area, advising them to not open their windows or doors to unexpected visitors.

The order was lifted at about 10:40 p.m. Monday when police said it appeared the two people had left the area. Police said the pair was seen talking to the victim before the shooting.
