Man gets 40 years on drug, gun charges in Kane County

A Chicago man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison in a Kane County drug and gun case.

Cory L. Alexander, 48, of the 11000 block of South Calumet Avenue, was sentenced July 16 by Kane County Judge David Kliment.

Alexander was convicted in December of two counts of armed violence and two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

Prosecutors said that on Nov. 20, 2017, Alexander was driving a rental car that Illinois State Police stopped on I-90. They said he had a loaded pistol under the driver’s seat, and bags of drugs in the trunk.

They said the drugs included more than 450 grams of cannabis, more than 49 grams of fentanyl, and more than 25 grams of heroin mixed with fentanyl.

Alexander must serve at least 50% of his sentence before being eligible for parole. He received credit for 1,049 days he has spent in custody.
