Bartlett to host open house Wednesday on proposed Lake Street gateway development

Bartlett officials are inviting residents to an open house on plans to create a 63-acre commercial and residential development at the village’s northeastern gateway on Lake Street from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, at village hall, 228 S. Main St.

The event is interactive and will walk attendees through how the plan evolved from three preliminary scenarios. Illustrative boards with renderings and diagrams will cover land use, housing, open space, the market core and circulation.

Team members from Chicago-based urban planning firm Houseal Lavigne will be in attendance to answer questions and gather priorities from the community.

The village has created a 154-acre tax increment financing district around the site to help fund public improvements and bought the first 20 acres for $3 million.

Still key to the plan are the acquisition of 43 acres from the Illinois Department of Transportation and the realignment of Oak Avenue’s approach from the south to create a four-way signalized intersection at Bartlett Road.
