Police: Pedestrian struck and killed by Metra train near Wheeling

Authorities are investigating the death of a pedestrian who was struck by an inbound Metra train near an industrial area of Wheeling Monday morning.

Metra officials said the pedestrian was struck at about 6:45 a.m. near Diens Drive on the village’s north side. The collision occurred north of the Wheeling station.

The person struck was described as an adult male. His identity is not being released until next of kin is notified.

Traffic on the train line has been temporarily halted, but train traffic was restarted around 8:45 a.m.
