More should protest what’s happening
“God Bless America,” “Support Our Troops,” “Proud to be an American,” “America First.”
The slogans go on and on.
The people who use them believe the myths about this country. They’re proud in their lazy ignorance, self-satisfaction and willful disregard of the truth.
What’s in our past? Generations of horrid slavery. Massacres of Native Americans. Immoral and illegal wars like Vietnam. Endless discrimination and segregation, including lynchings. Support for brutal right-wing dictators, for torture and assassinations and for tragedies like Gaza.
And today?
We have the worst government we’ve ever had.
— Taking food from children.
— Throwing Medicaid patients out on the street.
— Hunting down poor, vulnerable people, including women and children,
with thugs. (An ICE torture house was just discovered in Louisiana.)
— Starting and supporting immoral and evil wars like Iraq, Yemen, Gaza and Iran.
— Cutting Social Security while giving billionaires tax cuts.
— Rolling back all of the gains made in the Civil Rights movement.
— Eliminating black history, including slavery, from colleges and textbooks.
Proud of your country? Why? Why aren’t you out at the rallies opposing the evil being committed here and now?
