Mother charged months after son killed in Mundelein house fire

A former Mundelein woman has been arrested in connection with a March fire that left her 4-year-old son dead, authorities said.

Aliannay P. Rodriguez, 21, of Lakemoor, is charged with felony counts of involuntary manslaughter, endangering the life or health of a child and child abandonment, Mundelein police said Friday.

The charges stem from a March 23 fire in a house on the 200 block of Dalton Avenue, where Rodriguez lived at the time. Rodriguez had left Christopher Alfaro-Rodriguez, 4, alone in the house for about 20 hours by the time the fire broke out, police said.

Christopher died from smoke inhalation. His body was found in the basement of the one-story house.

Firefighters had tried to rescue Christopher in the basement but were driven back by heavy flames, smoke and structural damage to the house, authorities said.
