Wilson delivers late flurry, but Bulls lose second summer game

There was bound to be some regression in Game 2 after Bulls rookie Caleb Wilson began his summer league career with 35 points last Friday.

Generally, this was an all-around dud by the Bulls, who lost to Utah 80-63 on Monday in Las Vegas. Wilson came alive late in the game to finish with 19 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocked shots.

Wilson brought the crowd to its feet by soaring above 6-11 Jonas Aidoo for one of those dunk-like shots that gets thrown through the hoop. Then Wilson hit a 3, added a blocked shot and scored a put-back basket. He went 8-for-17 from the field overall, 3-for-8 from long range,

One issue making the night tougher was Wilson went 0-for-6 from the foul line. Given the NBA is using a “make one shot for either 2 or 3 points” rule, Wilson could have had 14 more points if he'd made every free throw.

Jaylin Sellers added 13 points for the Bulls. First-round pick Dailyn Swain went 0-for-9 from the field, but did grab 8 rebounds. Noa Essengue scored 6 points.

Similar to Game 1 against Memphis, the Bulls struggled without a true point guard in the starting lineup. They had a whopping 24 turnovers, compared to just 12 assists. The Bulls also shot 28.6% as a team.

Utah guard Darryn Peterson, the No. 2 overall pick of the draft, did not play in this game. The Bulls play again Tuesday against Washington and it remains to be seen whether the Bulls will give Wilson a break.
