Two men shot in Aurora Saturday night
Two Aurora men were shot Saturday night on the city’s Near East Side.
According to a release from the Aurora Police Department, officers responded to reported gunfire near Jackson Place and Anderson Street around 10:55 p.m. to find two men, ages 19 and 20, with gunshot wounds.
Both victims were taken to a hospital. The 20-year-old man was treated for injuries that are not life-threatening. The 19-year-old man was transferred to another hospital for additional treatment and is in critical, but stable, condition.
Preliminary information indicates the victims were attending a gathering at a residence on the 0-100 block of Jackson Place when they were struck by gunfire, police said.
Detectives from the Aurora Police Department’s Investigations Bureau are actively investigating the incident and have recovered multiple shell casings and other evidence in the area.
Investigators also found that nearby Waldo Middle School — which was vacant at the time — was struck by bullets during the shooting.
While the incident appears to have been isolated, the perpetrators remain at large, and the investigation is ongoing.
