Artist Series to feature Elgin flutist Miguel Rodriguez at Huntley church
On Sunday, Aug. 2, the popular Artist Series will present a flute recital performed by Miguel Rodriguez of Elgin, accompanied by pianist Nathan Canfield, at Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church in Huntley.
Sponsored by the SOTP Artist Series, the public is invited to attend this free performance at 5 p.m. at the church, 10805 Main St. No tickets are required and freewill donations are gratefully accepted.
Rodriguez is a recent graduate of the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University, where he earned his Bachelor of Music in Music Education and Flute Performance.
While at Northwestern, Rodriguez’ primary teachers were John Thorne, Alyce Johnson, and Jennifer Gunn. This flute recital serves a warm send-off as he will be attending Carnegie Mellon University in the fall to pursue a master’s degree in Flute Performance.
Rodriguez, a graduate of Larkin High School in Elgin, started his musical journey in fifth grade. After trying out numerous instruments, he felt a strong connection with the flute. He also performed and was placed in the top band of the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra.
He serves as a substitute musician with the Rockford, South Bend, Quad-Cities, Elgin and Kansas City Symphonies. Passionate about music education, Rodriguez has spent the last year teaching fifth- and sixth-grade band to students at Kimball Middle School in Elgin.
