Hampshire man accused of sexually assaulting child in Pingree Grove
A Hampshire man is facing multiple charges after authorities say a child was abducted and sexually assaulted last week in Pingree Grove.
Janio G. Velasquez Muro, 41, of the 400 block of East Jefferson Avenue has been charged with three felonies — aggravated kidnapping, predatory criminal sexual assault, and aggravated criminal sexual abuse. He is also charged with one misdemeanor count of sexual exploitation of a child.
According to authorities, police responded around 1:34 p.m. June 26 to the 1200 block of Cape Cod Lane in Pingree Grove after receiving reports of an abduction and sexual assault of a 9-year-old girl.
An investigation found the girl had been forcibly taken from her bicycle, coerced into a car and sexually assaulted before she managed to escape, authorities said.
After the extensive investigation, Velasquez Muro was apprehended on Tuesday morning, officials said. On Thursday, a judge ordered that he remain in the Kane County jail pending trial.
His next court date will be July 16 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
Authorities say the investigation remains active.
