Missing concepts today
I wonder when the moral mantra of “Duty, Honor and Country” was supplanted by “Dow Jones, S&P, and Nasdaq.”
Perhaps it began when one of the dumbest moves ever made was abolishing the draft. It was at that point that future generations began to lose sight of the fact that freedom is not free. Defending the Constitution, the moral fiber and the shores of America became the task of others and “not my job” became the norm.
The less fortunate became “invisible” and the ideals of the Ten Commandments were reduced to Two and Eight vague suggestions and the money changers were invited back into the temple. The mantra then became “My IRA is fine, so life is perfect.”
Whatever happened to the Eisenhowers, the Trumans, the Thompsons, the Edgars, the Bush Sr.s, and the Reagans? Will their concepts ever return?
