Two issues that city needs to fix

I am a lifelong Chicagoan who now resides in the Northern suburbs. This past Monday, I went into the city and did a long walk from the Rogers Park neighborhood through downtown and back.

I walked through many neighborhood parks and found that each of them had day camps. The campers under the supervision of counselors seemed to be enjoying running, playing soccer, softball and other organized activities. As a graduate of CPD day camps in the 1960s, it is nice to see that they still exist.

On the other hand, I saw two things that in my opinion the city needs to fix. Many of the girders for the CTA elevated trains along the brown and red lines are rusting and have peeling paint. This is an eyesore and should be repaired. A bigger problem is the rented bikes and e-scooters that are abandoned in parks and on the streets. I counted 103 of these during my seven-hour walk. Why not make the companies pay a fine for every unit left abandoned? They then can pass this fine onto the user.
