Mundelein officials announce death in ‘police department family’

Mundelein officials have announced the death of “a member of the Mundelein Police Department family” but aren’t providing additional details.

Village Administrator Eric Guenther announced the off-duty death on the village’s official Facebook page Sunday afternoon. The post didn’t identify the person or the cause of death.

“Right now, our focus is on supporting the family of this individual and respecting the family's privacy while they grieve the loss of their loved one,” Guenther wrote.

Citing the same concerns, Police Chief Jason Seeley declined to release any information Monday. Mayor Robin Meier declined to comment, too.
