Wheeling police launch new road safety campaign
Wheeling police have launched a road safety campaign focusing on drivers who are impaired or not wearing seat belts.
Timed to coincide with the Independence Day weekend, it’ll run through July 6.
“We’re asking all of our residents and visitors to celebrate Independence Day safely,” Sgt. Rick Richardson said in a news release. “Our officers will be out in full force to keep impaired drivers off the road.”
The effort is part of a statewide campaign supported by federal funding.
The Illinois State Police and more than 200 local police and sheriff’s departments are planning similar campaigns, according to the release.
