Mosquitoes test positive for West Nile virus in Lake County
A batch of mosquitoes sampled June 16 in Buffalo Grove by the village’s trap has tested positive for West Nile virus, the first confirmed indicator this year of the presence of the virus in Lake County.
Mosquitoes can transmit serious diseases, according to the Lake County Health Department and residents are urged to practice the “4 Ds of Defense” to protect themselves: Drain standing water; use insect repellent; protect yourself at dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active; and, wear long sleeves, pants and closed-toe shoes.
