Closet environmentalist?

I would like to take a moment to thank our Dear Leader, and apologize for some of my past comments: thank you, Mr. Trump.

Your war of choice in Iran spiked gas prices 40% in the past 3 months and caused “demand destruction.” That euphemism means people are driving less; taking more fuel efficient alternatives like buses, bicycles, e-bikes, or trains; or investing in new or used EVs that are less subject to the vagaries of the global oil market. Global EV demand is up 11% from last year. Less oil and gas burned, means less pollution. Thanks, Mr President.

The geopolitical consequences of relying on oil and gas have also become abundantly clear; they are bargaining chips for petrostates, and are subject to pricing and availability whims that subject average citizens to remarkable financial pain. Countries as diverse as Pakistan, Romania, and Australia are moving to phase out oil and LNG in favor of electricity generated and used on-site, primarily with solar panels, as an energy security measure. More clean energy is a win for our society and our planet — thanks again, Mr Trump.

Donald J. Trump, closet environmentalist — who would have guessed?
