Body found in Fox River confirmed to be missing 16-year-old Elgin girl

The Kane County Coroner confirmed Monday that the body recovered from the Fox River in Elgin Sunday was a 16-year-old Elgin girl reported missing Friday.

Destiny Neal was reported missing on June 19 after last being seen in the area of the 1200 block of Abbot Drive.

After a weekend of searching, Elgin police detectives found her body in the river just north of the Kimball Street bridge Sunday afternoon.

A news release from the Kane County Coroner said the preliminary cause of death is pending toxicology, and the death remains under investigation by the coroner’s office and the Elgin Police Department. Samples were collected and sent to a national forensic laboratory for analysis.
