McHenry County Historical Society celebrates women farmers with ‘Ag-HER-Culture’ farm-to-table dinner
The McHenry County Historical Society is hosting “Ag-HER-Culture,” a farm-to-table dinner celebrating the contributions of women farmers in McHenry County. The event will take place at 4:30 p.m. Friday, June 27, on the grounds of Maria’s Lavender Farm, 216 N. Menge Road in Marengo.
Guests will enjoy an unforgettable evening surrounded by the beauty of summer, featuring a lavender inspired, crafted with seasonally farm-fresh ingredients The event highlights the vital role women have played — and continue to play — in shaping McHenry County's agricultural heritage and future.
“Women have long been at the heart of farming in McHenry County, often serving as innovators, caretakers, business owners, and community builders,” said Jolie Diepenhorst, executive director of McHenry County Historical Society. “Ag-HER-Culture is an opportunity to celebrate their stories, their contributions, and the local food systems they help sustain.”
The evening event, set among the lavender fields of Maria’s Farm, will feature music from a local harpist, a farm-to-table dining experience featuring locally sourced ingredients, and a silent auction, as well as stories highlighting the history and impact of women in agriculture
“Ag-HER-Culture” is part of the McHenry County Historical Society's ongoing efforts to preserve and share the diverse stories that have shaped the county's history while fostering meaningful connections between the past and present.
