Elgin home sustains extensive fire damage

An Elgin home on the city’s east side was left with extensive fire and smoke damage Saturday morning, authorities said.

Firefighters were dispatched at about 8:35 a.m. for a reported structure fire in the 900 block of Chippewa Drive. The first fire department crews arrived less than four minutes later and found a two-story home with an attached garage fire that had spread into the living area of the residence, the city said in a news release.

There were no injuries to residents or firefighters. The occupants of the home got out before their arrival.

Initial damage estimates to the structure, contents and vehicles top $200,000, according to the release. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
