Fire causes $250K in estimated damage to Elgin home

No one was hurt in a fire that damaged an Elgin home Friday night, authorities said.

The fire caused an estimated loss of roughly $250,000, the city said in a news release Saturday.

Elgin firefighters were dispatched to the fire in the 900 block of Diane Avenue at about 9:14 p.m. The first unit arrived approximately four minutes later and found fire venting from a bedroom window at the front of the home, a news release stated. Crews immediately used a hose line, and the fire was quickly extinguished.

The residents were not home at the time. Two dogs also were rescued from the residence.

The fire was generally contained to the front bedroom, with extensive smoke damage reported in other areas of the home.

The three residents have since been relocated. The fire remains under investigation.
