Bartlett’s Living Lord Church presents scholarship to Kennedy Nevarez

Living Lord Lutheran Church in Bartlett recently awarded its second annual Senior High Scholarship Award to Kennedy Nevarez.

On Sunday, May 17, Bob Esmail, director of Youth and Family Ministries, presented a check for $1,000 to Nevarez, who graduated in May from South Elgin High School and plans to attend Valparaiso University in the fall, to study psychology and religion.

Nevarez was grateful to receive the support from her family of faith: “This scholarship is more than just money. It’s an opportunity to represent my church and a chance to continue my education with confidence in my future.”

An initiative of the Living Lord Lutheran Church Council, the annual scholarship fund recognizes graduating high school seniors for their active participation in church life and service, year after year, at Living Lord.

Nevarez has participated in many activities, events, and missions through the youth ministries program. Additionally, she has been involved in churchwide activities including singing with the worship team band during Sunday services, volunteering for church and community service days, and serving as a leader for the confirmation program.

“Kennedy has a servant heart and positive energy that radiates from her faith. She inspires so many people in our church,” said the Rev. Kristian Johnson, pastor at Living Lord.

Nevarez has also received three scholarships from Valparaiso University: The Oliver W. and Emma W. Allen Scholarship, the Kretzmann Scholarship, and the Presidential Scholarship. “May God bless Kennedy in her dreams and aspirations for the future. Living Lord Church will keep her in prayer as she continues to grow in faith and learning,” said Steve Schwarz, church council president.
