Prosecutors: Felon found asleep at the wheel in Elmhurst charged with DUI, weapon possession
A felon from Joliet is facing DUI and weapon possession charges after being found passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle in Elmhurst over the weekend, prosecutors said Monday.
Elmhurst police officers pulled up behind a vehicle in the area of North Avenue and Route 83 that they say was stopped in a lane of traffic at approximately 1:10 a.m. Saturday, according to a news release from the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office.
Officers say they found D Ante Hence, 36, passed out behind the wheel with a fully loaded 9 mm handgun inches from his outstretched hand, according to prosecutors.
Police also found open alcohol and cannabis in the center console. Authorities say Hence’s BAC was .19 percent.
Hence was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon without a FOID card, both felonies. He’s also facing misdemeanor DUI and possession of cannabis by a driver charges, as well as multiple traffic offenses.
A judge ordered that Hence remain in the DuPage County jail pending trial. He’s scheduled to be arraigned on June 29.
