‘Lots of happy feelings’: Buffalo Grove Pride Parade a festive celebration

Buffalo Grove’s eighth annual Pride Parade was a sun-drenched affair that drew thousands of participants and spectators for a daylong celebration.

The parade marched down Buffalo Grove Road with about 100 entries greeted by huge crowds, many decked out in a variety of rainbow-themed garb, makeup and hairstyles.

The family element was much in evidence, with parents supporting their LGBTQ+ children.

“It’s fantastic,” said Buffalo Grove resident Kim Witte, who was joined by her daughter, Sam Gallagher of Chicago. “We go every year. I enjoy the representation, how many people come out and support.”

Among those taking part were members of the worship community, including synagogues and churches.

“Jesus said to love everybody, and I don’t remember him making any exceptions,” said former Buffalo Grove trustee and former Lake County Judge Chuck Johnson, who marched with Hope Lutheran Church. “So neither should we.”

Following the parade, marchers and spectators moved the party to Mike Rylko Community Park for the Pride Picnic hosted by the Buffalo Grove Park District.

The picnic offered activities for the children, food trucks and entertainment at the Adriane Johnson Amphitheater.

Hetal Wallace, president of the park district board of commissioners, pointed out the vibe at the park.

“If you walk around, you get lots and lots of happy feelings here,” she said.
