New free short story sparking mental health conversations among youth
Youth-driven publishing company Aiden Branss Books has released a new, free digital short story titled “The Author’s Notebook: A Short Story,” written by founder Aiden Branss.
Launched in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, the piece aims to spark open dialogue about mental health challenges among young readers. The organization, which was recently recognized by Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson for its positive community impact, focuses on amplifying diverse voices from underrepresented young creators.
Branss initially founded the platform after writing his first novel at age 16 during the pandemic lockdown, encountering constant rejections from mainstream publishers who were hesitant to take a chance on teenage authors.
The new story follows an eighth-grade protagonist navigating identity and mental health hurdles. By offering the narrative entirely for free on the Aiden Branss Books website, the publisher hopes to continue its mission of community outreach, providing a relatable catalyst for meaningful conversations among teenagers
